As a tech lead for the spearhead project with Kroger Pharmacy, I led a team in the modernization of a LOB Cold Fusion web application. Our team collaborated with Kroger Pharmacy IT to bring their first non-trivial workload to the cloud which featured private networking features, Linux PaaS services, and Terraform CI/CD processes. In addition, I delivered a reference architecture and claims mapping strategies for Angular applications with Java back ends built on top of Azure Active Directory authentication. I helped shape naming convention guidelines for the broader Kroger organization based on work I had done over the years with other organizations who were new to Azure. Our team delivery was celebrated inside Kroger, leading to millions of dollars in additional multi-year contract work.

In a stand-alone role within WBA, I designed the DevOps processes leveraged by IaaS engineers on Microsoft's LEAP team to lift and shift hundreds of applications into Azure. The solution featured private build agents, application onboarding and pipeline creation automation, and a domain specific language which abstracted the technical requirements of the underlying Azure architecture, allowing Microsoft engineers to remain focused on application inventories without having to be fully knowledgeable of WBA's security, architecture, and deployment requirements. I also became a key policy contributor for Azure naming conventions leveraged by WBA teams across the globe.

Hershey Entertainment and Resorts asked for assistance planning a lift-and-shift cloud migration for their primary LOB applications. They were interested in modernization opportunities as they moved to the cloud and asked for phased uplift approaches to accelerate adoption. The final deliverable to the client included a three-step plan for the migration effort and estimated runtime costs based on current traffic across multiple web sites.

NC4 needed help splitting off a portion of their business which was built around a web application built by another team at Blue Chip. I was brought in to migrate projects, backlogs, code, and user accounts in Azure Dev Ops to the new organization as part of the divestiture. The migration included custom scripts which leveraged Azure Dev Ops APIs to pump data across organizations and a third-party tool to migrate an intact work item history. This work inspired the post I wrote explaining how to Migrate Azure DevOps work item queries to a new organization.

GrafTech, an industrial steel furnace manufacturer, looked to Blue Chip for guidance on how to uplift their industry-leading SaaS application into Azure. I worked with the development team to analyze the existing application and provide strategies and cost projections for the modernization effort. The client was presented with multiple roadmaps which included a multi-phased approach for modernization efforts and Azure cost estimates for each. Development and training engagements was also presented to the client, who had limited development skillsets on staff.

Save the Children found themselves in dire need of a rapidly developed product to better track their emergency response efficiency during natural disasters. They were looking to replace an Excel spreadsheet which had become too big and cumbersome to open and share across teams. The new solution needed to support collaboration for data gathering, role-based access to screens and data, and offer dynamic reporting capabilities which would change with time. I designed and led the development of a replacement built on the Universal Windows Platform with a back end powered by Azure serverless platform, delivering data into Azure Data Lake for Power BI reporting. The delivery timeline was aggressive, with the solution needing to be in place before hurricane season began in August.

As a tip-of-the-spear automation engineer on WBA's SAP migration to Azure, I worked directly with Microsoft SAP subject matter experts to build tooling which deployed scores of servers. During testing phases the Microsoft team would leverage this tooling to iterate on deployment specifications. I had the opportunity to work with product teams within Microsoft to help test newer Azure features related to high performance computing and proximity placement groups. The Microsoft SMEs were very impressed with the delivery, and provided ongoing positive feedback to Blue Chip management.

Our team was brought in to help DSW move their Windows and Linux servers to the Azure cloud and to prepare the company for a cloud-first posture. I helped the team evaluate key internal home-grown LOB applications for cloud readiness and to establish a modernization roadmap for those applications which fit the bill.

In my role as project lead for this engagement, I hosted 4 weeks of collaborative requirements gathering sessions with stakeholders, STC leadership, and STC IT resources which focused on a business-critical application used by STC to collect information on at-risk children across the world. I worked with the impacted parties to document existing application functionality and build a modernization plan for taking it to the cloud. The multilingual solution would run on 500+ tablets and thousands of PCs in countries across the world, supporting secure data collection, a partially connected workforce, and multiple external systems integrations. A big data component rounded out the offering. The final deliverable from this engagement included a populated & prioritized backlog in Azure Dev Ops which represented the outcome of the application features, key decisions, and implementation plans for the modernized solution.

I helped architect and develop a system which aggregated court data to help predict case outcomes based on case type, lawyer, and judge. The system was built on durable functions using a fan-out pattern and leveraged several Azure PaaS services, including storage, key vault, service bus, and Azure SQL.

I developed a custom SharePoint online provisioning solution in the Azure Government cloud based on Azure Functions. The client had a strong security posture which required custom automation features and enhanced monitoring mechanics to replace components which weren’t available in Azure Government at the time.

In my second engagement with Bob Evans, I was responsible for leading a team of developers as we replaced more than 25 legacy vendor systems integrations. Our final state was built mostly on Azure Logic Apps and Functions with connectivity to Dynamics 365. I designed best-practices solutions for security, application monitoring, and DevOps automation and managed the relationships and expectations across HR and IT business units.

Save the Children needed a web site to drive efficiency into their core business processes conducted between globally distributed fundraising centers. I lead the project from envision and plan through delivery, serving as team leader, tech lead, and project manager. We used Azure Dev Ops to coordinate across our development team, STC business stakeholders and sponsors, and Blue Chip executive leadership.

During the ‘day-zero’ period of Bob Evans' migration to Azure, I was brought in as a subject matter expert to help development teams from across the Bob Evans organization plan for uplift and modernization scenarios. I provided guidance on development and deployment strategies, performed hands-on coding and training activities, and helped the CTO and a team of directors build migration and staffing forecasts.

I served as project lead and primary developer on this engagement with a non-profit healthcare company. I provided MPRO with application architecture review, PowerShell script development, and data migration assistance. I helped them establish a path for cloud migration which was adopted in a future engagement. During my application review I uncovered several security issues which I remedied.

In my first project at Blue Chip Consulting, I worked on Wendy's Intranet site which was hosted in SharePoint Online. I helped improve upon the reliability and workflow for their daily internal newsletter, built several remote event receivers for custom integrations, and wrote client-side JavaScript using the SharePoint libraries.

I helped the team solve behavioral issues with several client-side sorting and filtering features by developing unit tests in JUnit.
